Is it important to stretch your body frequently?

Stretching is a conditioning exercise shown to improve the tone and health of muscles; limbers up tendons, ligaments, and joints; and changes the dynamics of the nervous system.

Muscles contain stretch receptors, which are special groups of cells that inform the central nervous system about their state of tension.  

This might be why stretching your muscles can change your level of arousal and mood.

Since stretching is totally natural, you can create your own style of stretching or find a stretching class in a fitness center and even on-line.

Can Food Lower Heart Disease and Stroke Risk? Does consuming a pro-inflammatory diet play a key role in the development of heart disease and stroke?

A 32-year study of over 200,000 participants found those consuming a pro-inflammatory diet had a 46% higher risk of heart disease and 28% higher risk of stroke, compared to those consuming anti-inflammatory diets.

The researchers suggested  some anti-inflammatory foods to consume with higher levels of antioxidants and fiber to help combat inflammation include green leafy vegetables, yellow vegetables, whole grains, coffee, and tea.

A study published in the Spine Journal compared active versus simulated chiropractic manipulations on patients with acute back pain and sciatic nerve pain.

Active manipulations involved the patient laying down and receiving hands-on treatment from a chiropractor.

Simulated manipulations involved electrical muscle stimulation with electrodes placed on the skin to send electrical pulses to different parts of the body.

This study concluded active chiropractic manipulation has more effect than simulated manipulations on pain relief for acute back pain and sciatica nerve pain.
